One of the most popular tables at the annual Nescatunga Arts Festival is the Gourmet Food Booth where a shopper can spend some time looking at all the wonderful treats the locals have donated to the cause.
Once again, volunteer bakers and snack-makers are asked to donate their best goodies for the booth. Although the festival will take place over two days on May 31-June 1, the Gourmet Food Booth will only be available on Saturday, June 1, from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. inside the Pete and Ruth Leslie Fieldhouse at the Alva Recreation Complex in Alva, Oklahoma. The address is 1887 Goldbug Drive. Items should be delivered to the tables just inside the west entrance no later than 7 a.m. on that Saturday.
In past years some of the delectable desserts donated included cakes, pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, brownies, breads, snack mixes and more. The booth included items from people who are known for making some of the best baked items and treats in the area. The large, tasty Nescatunga Cookies will be at the booth again this year.
Nicki Chaffee is once again heading up this table. Questions can be directed to her at (580) 430-5450.
She noted that other items that went over well in past years were smaller bags of items to grab-and-go like cookies and brownies and even trail mixes and other snacks.
Volunteer bakers do not have to be members of Nescatunga to provide items for the booth as all donations will be graciously accepted, even monetary ones.
Bakers donating food are asked to provide their name, contact information, the kind of item they are donating and information about ingredients that could be possible allergens.
Several food trucks will be lined up ready to serve the public just south of the building during both days of the event.
Student volunteers will be on hand to provide other volunteer services throughout the event.
The Gourmet Food Booth is the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council’s biggest fundraiser to help provide donations to student groups, as well as an annual scholarship to an arts-related high school student from Alva High School.
Cash donations and yearly $25 memberships to the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council are open to anyone interested in supporting the arts. Checks may be mailed to P.O. Box 152, Alva, OK 73717 or payments may be made via Nescatunga’s PayPal account by searching for the email NescatungaArts@yahoo.com within the service.
Booth space for fine artists and crafters is still available for anyone interested, and contestants in the third annual Sugar Show are still welcome to register to compete in decorated cakes, cookies, sugar art, fruit pies, homemade bread, sweet bread and fudge/candies.
