Volunteers Needed for Nescatunga’s Gourmet Food Booth, Other Festival Jobs

Updated: May 27

The annual Nescatunga Arts Festival is set for June 6, 4-9 p.m., and June 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Alva, Oklahoma, at the Pete and Ruth Leslie Fieldhouse at the Alva Recreation Complex just south of Alva. One of the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council’s biggest fundraisers needs volunteers to provide items for its Gourmet Food Booth.

Volunteer bakers and snack-makers are needed to help create goodies for the annual Gourmet Food Booth at the Nescatunga Arts Festival June 6-7 at the Pete and Ruth Leslie Fieldhouse at the Alva Recreation Complex just south of Alva. The gourmet table will only be set up on Saturday of the festival. Non-refrigerated donated items may be delivered to the building Friday evening during the festival or by 8 a.m. on Saturday. Other volunteers to help sit at this table or do other jobs during the festival also are needed.

Non-refrigerated foods like cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, bags of mixed snacks and more will be greatly appreciated. Items may be packaged as larger items or in smaller bags for grab-and-go foods.

Bakers donating food are asked to provide their name, contact information, the kind of item they are donating and information about ingredients that could be possible allergens to keep those buying the foods safe.

All non-refrigerated foods may be delivered to the Fieldhouse Friday evening during the festival or by 8 a.m. on Saturday

A Signup Genius form has also been created for local bakers and snack-makers to let the festival committee know of items that will be delivered to the venue for the booth. The form to sign up is at https://bit.ly/Gourmet-Food-Booth.

Volunteer bakers do not have to be members of Nescatunga to provide items for the booth, as all donations will be graciously accepted, although membership is welcome. Monetary donations are also welcome and are tax-deductible if the name and address are provided.

Nescatunga registration chair Mary Riegel and marketing member Jenny Sattler have agreed to bake the annual Nescatunga Cookies to have at the table.

Funds raised through the Gourmet Food Booth help to fund scholarships for local arts-related students each year, as well as help fund the arts festival, First Friday Art Walks at the Runnymede, workshops and other activities.

Anyone with questions should contact Heather Penner, Nescatunga president, at (580) 748-1905 or hlpenner91@gmail.com.

Other Volunteer Opportunities at Festival

Several volunteer opportunities are available at this year’s festival. To see a list of jobs and times, please visit the SignUp Genius link at https://bit.ly/Nescatunga-Volunteers if interested in helping in some capacity.

The festival committee would appreciate volunteers to help artists and crafters unload their items Friday morning and bring them into the facility, as well as help them take their merchandise back to their vehicles when the event is over on Saturday afternoon.

There are other volunteer opportunities to help with keeping the venue tidy, being “booth sitters” to allow the vendors a break throughout the day, and for just being helpful in many ways during the two-day event.

Outside Artist, Crafter Booth Space Available

Inside booth spaces are full with 46 artists and crafters who plan to attend this year’s festival; however, the committee will still accept outside booth space. More information and registration forms are available at www.nescatunga.org. If the form shows it's closed, please contact the committee at NescatungaArts@yahoo.com if interested in registering for an outside booth.

New this year for the fine artist’s booths OR crafter’s booths will be a “People’s Choice” award based on the votes from the patrons attending this year’s festival. The favorite booth winner will receive a $50 prize provided by an anonymous donor.

Sugar Show Canceled This Year

And, unfortunately, the hard decision to cancel the Sugar Show portion of the festival has been made because of the lack of entries this year. Those who entered have been notified of the cancellation.

Quilt Show Needs Quilts to Display

The annual Quilt Show, organized by the Peace by Piece Quilt Guild and other volunteers, will show off the talents of local quilters in a room on the north end of the building. Anyone who wants to show their quilt should contact Helena Leysar at (970) 218-7289 soon. New this year for the Quilt Show will be a People’s Choice award for the favorite quilt on display. The winner will receive a $50 prize, given by an anonymous donor.
