The Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council is sponsoring a workshop to teach a few basic embroidery skills during the May 2 First Friday Art Walk at the Runnymede in downtown Alva from 6-8 p.m.

Community member Kylea Amerin will teach her second workshop on embroidery for this First Friday event. Cost will be $10 for each participant for up to 15 people.

Amerin said she will cover several fundamental hand embroidery stitches, including the stem stitch, split stitch, satin stitch, and whipped back stitch and could revisit the French knot learned at the last workshop if time permits. Participants will learn techniques such as keeping fabric taut in the hoop, separating embroidery threads, threading needles, starting and finishing stitches and other helpful tips.

Amerin will be available to answer questions and provide individual guidance as needed.

Also planned for the First Friday event will be the showing of artwork created by Alva High School art students.

The art display is free and open to the public from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

To register for the workshop ahead of the event, please email NescatungaArts@yahoo.com. Payment may be made at the door.
