Wide Variety of Fine Artists, Crafters Registered for 55th Nescatunga Arts Festival June 5-6 at the Alva Recreation Complex

ALVA, Okla. -- As of May 25, 44 fine artists and crafters have registered to be a part of the 55th Nescatunga Arts Festival June 5-6 at the Alva Recreation Complex, 1887 Goldbug Blvd., in Alva, Oklahoma. Vendor booths and fun activities will be at the Pete and Ruth Leslie Fieldhouse. Limited inside space is available with some availability in the student’s combined free section. Additional space is available outside the building.


The festival will kick off Friday, June 5, from 5-8 p.m. and continue on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Artists and crafters, including the annual Gourmet Food Booth with donated goodies from local bakers, will be open for sale, and live entertainment will be inside the building.


All fine artists will be competing for Best of Show and other first through third place prizes in eight different categories.


Those visiting the vendor booths will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite booth space from among all fine artists, crafters and authors entered. The vendor receiving the most votes will receive the People’s Choice prize.


Festival-goers can vie for prizes donated by the vendors during Arts Festival Bingo by grabbing a bingo card from the information table at the west entrance of the building, blacking out the full card and turning it back in to the west entrance table by 2:30 p.m. on June 6 to be eligible to win. Winners must be present when names are announced at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday. Number of prizes is determined by the number of items collected from the participating vendors.

A list of the vendors planning to attend and information about each one is provided below:

 

Brylie Bakes, Hopeton, Oklahoma

Brylie will set up a booth of sourdough bread, bagels, pretzels, pizza dough, tortillas and mini cakes. She is an Alva High School student who is raising funds to go on a trip to Great Britain with the Girl Scouts this summer. She has been a Girl Scout since kindergarten and is a bronze and silver award recipient. She is also a member of the Goldbug Speech and Debate team, a straight A student, and maintains a part-time job.

Better Together Creations/Cheesecake, Lonnie Sanders, Alva, Oklahoma

Lonnie is once again bringing his homemade cheesecake.

Michael Bond, Lahoma, Oklahoma

Michael will have charcuterie boards, wood plaques and more.

JoDe Bradt, Alva, Oklahoma

JoDe returns to the festival with items entered in the fine arts category of fiber arts and mixed media. She also will have craft items in the categories of handmade decorative items, home goods/accessories, jewelry, and other craft items. JoDe said she makes an eclectic variety of crafts and that it all depends on what she wants to create in that moment, which could include door signs, magnets, keychains and many other items.

Angelia Case, Alva, Oklahoma

Angelia entered in the fine arts categories of graphics, painting and photography, and will have many items for sale made from her artwork, including larger and smaller prints of her original paintings, which are mostly floral, photography pieces, as well as fun puzzles, postcards and a food platter. She also will have various flavors of homemade jelly that she and her sister Valarie Case have made. Angelia serves as the publicity/marketing assistant for the Nescatunga Arts Festival.

Lorraine Case, Alva, Oklahoma

Lorraine will have many types of handmade craft items including sock monkeys, terrycloth teddy bears, crocheted pin cushions, car coasters, eyeglass holders, cord holders, cup carriers, hot pads, pot holders, neck coolers, closet safes, crocheted hangers, jar openers, bookmarkers, and many other items.

Valarie Case, Alva, Oklahoma

Valarie will have many photographs for sale taken in the Alva, Oklahoma, and northwest Oklahoma area, along with some images from vacation travels. She also makes jewelry by creating her own paper beads made from junk mail catalogs, magazines, wrapping paper, etc. She also will have Christmas ornaments and postcards from her photography. Valarie serves as the publicity/marketing chair for the Nescatunga Arts Festival.

Charles Castillo with Castlewood Creations LLC, Chickasha, Oklahoma

Charles is entered in the fine arts and mixed media categories. He will have exotic wood cutting boards, charcuterie boards, turned bowls and pens, as well as engraved and engraver cut items. He also may be bringing pottery/sculpture.

Annette Castle with Castle Metal Designs, Enid, Oklahoma

Annette will have CNC (computer numerical control) Cut Metal Art

Eva Lopez Castro, Sweet Sunbun Craft, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Eva has participated in the festival for the last two years and will have crocheted plush animals and handmade earrings and bracelets.

Tiffany Crossland (Crafts by Crossland), Warr Acres, Oklahoma

Tiffany returns to the festival with diamond art paintings, handmade items using a Cricut and resin, mugs, and jewelry/beaded items.

Jeff and Jennifer Croy with Goodness Gracious Granola (Triple G), Yukon, Oklahoma

This returning vendor will be bringing uniquely flavored, health conscious granola.

Jolene Davis with Jolene’s Leather Shop, from Norman, Oklahoma

Jolene will have hand-tooled leather goods of belts, wallets, purses, tote bags, and other items made completely by hand. She also offers beaded inlays for belts, purse straps and other items.

John Doffer, Enid, Oklahoma

John has entered the fine arts category of designer arts and jewelry with wood decorations. He also is offering wood crafts, wood turned pens, polished rocks, holiday wood decorations and more.

Shelby Doll, Colwich, Kansas

Shelbie is an Indie author wanting to sell/market her self-published book titled “Hopeton Horror” based in a fictional version of Woods County, Oklahoma. This thriller is recommended for adult audiences as it contains stories of murder, blood and gore with a blend of romance. She also will have free bottle cap art/magnets to hand out as well.

Sage Edsall, Yukon Oklahoma

Sage is an acrylic artist whose work reflects the importance of preserving memories and has an overall style of “contemporary western.” Focusing mostly on realistic features in all subjects, the paintings have an illustrative flair due to the enhanced color palettes and outlining. Many, thin layers are used in these paintings, from the simulated texture in the background, to the shades of pink in the faces of subjects, layers of paint are built similar to how people build and store memories in their minds and in boxes in their closets.

Lezlie Gilbert with Ornaments for a Cause, Enid, Oklahoma

Lezlie has entered in fine arts category of fiber arts with a Character Rag Quilt. She also is bringing crafts including Cancer/Disease/Cause Awareness Ornaments.

Kaisyn Girk with Kais’ Arc Art, Buffalo, Oklahoma,

Kaisyn is a student entering a booth to be judged alongside non-students and is bringing items in designer arts and jewelry, metal/welding art.

Joshua Hinton with Just Joshin’ Art, Pond Creek, Oklahoma

Joshua is entered in the fine arts category of painting and will have oil and acrylic paintings on canvas. Subjects will range from a mixture of landscape and surrealism.

Kimber Horst with KimbaStyle, Spencer, Oklahoma

Kimber is entered in the fine arts category of graphics with pointillism

Leah Kenton-McGaha with The Knotty Kibben, Norman, Oklahoma

Leah has entered in the fine arts category of mixed media with laser-engraved wood panels featuring anthropomorphized cats with terrible puns, hand-painted with enamel and acrylic paints. She enjoys combining her love of cats, birdwatching, art history and terrible puns to create her mixed media art.  Her website at www.theknottykibben.com states that “she blends traditional hand-drawing with digital drawing to create her images, which she then laser-engraves on to wood, paper, or canvas. Afterwards, she hand-paints her pieces with a combination of acrylic and enamel paints, reminiscent of the bright, bold colors of stained glass and illuminated manuscripts.

Kaylynn Kovat with Wild Paint Jewelry, Alva, Oklahoma

Kaylynn creates handmade jewelry using a variety of beads from pony beads to semi-precious gemstones. She also does wire and metal working in her jewelry.

James Kyzer with Kyzer Pop Art, Purcell, Oklahoma

This returning vendor is entered in the fine arts category of mixed media with mixed media pop art. All artwork has soda pop-related subject matter/ "history" printed on the back. It will include mainly colored pencil and "collage" type artwork.

Kristi Lay (LB Country Lighting), Coffeyville, Kansas

Kristi is entered in the fine arts category of pottery/sculpture and also crafts. She is offering color-changing solar lights made out of landscape timbers with different figurines on the front and a seven-color changing solar light on top.

Warren Little, Alva, Oklahoma

This returning artist is entered in graphics, painting and photography categories. He runs the “Old Man” Gallery in downtown Alva. Everyone is welcome to stop in as “he’s open when he’s there.”

Kelly Long with Kelly Long Reflections, Medicine Lodge, Kansas

Kelly is entered in the fine arts category of graphics and will have detailed graphic pencil pieces showcasing the love of the Creator reflected through the striking images of the land, people, and prairie life, then and now.

Steve Maier with Tiny Treasures, and daughter Kayla Maier, Alva, Oklahoma

These returning vendors will be showcasing potted baby cacti, miniature acrylic paintings, and aroma bracelets.

Maria McCann, Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Maria is bringing puffed wheat snacks, potato chips, fries, dipping sauces, and brittles.

James McCaslin with JM Crafts, Yukon, Oklahoma

This returning crafter is bringing wooden birdhouses, cars, trains, and banks.

Linda Myers (Linda Sue Beads), Fairfax, Oklahoma

Linda is bringing acrylic paintings in the fine arts area and handmade beaded jewelry in crafts.

Julie Osborn with Rustic Wood by J/S, Enid, Oklahoma

This returning vendor is bringing a variety of handmade decorative items, craft jewelry and other craft items that will include wood signs, jewelry, and sublimated items.

Randy Parker with R&B Concrete Lawn Products, Carmen, Oklahoma

Randy returns to the festival with concrete birds including cardinals, blue birds, robins and others.

Denaye Prigmore with Amazin’ Glazin), Alva. Oklahoma

Denaye returns with homemade candies, cookies, cakes and brownies.

Lisa Reames, Blackwell, Oklahoma

Lisa will have homemade craft items of hand-quilted quilts, pillows, bowl holders, towels, tie aprons, wood cutting boards, cheese boards, serving tray with wood and epoxy and other miscellaneous items.

Mary Riegel, Alva, Oklahoma

Mary returns to the festival with several craft items in the handmade decorative items, home goods/accessories, craft jewelry, other craft item categories, which will include crocheted and quilted items for the home, beeswax candles and luminaries, beaded jewelry, and more. Mary serves the Nescatunga Council as its festival registration chair.

Brenda Sheik with Brenda Sheik Stained Glass LLC, Okeene, Oklahoma

Brenda has entered the fine arts category of designer arts and jewelry. This native Alvan and award-winning stained-glass artist, will be displaying three larger panels along with Christmas ornaments. Sheik is an artist with a passion for weaving stories through stained glass, a craft she’s honed since the late 1990s. Workshops in Kansas, Colorado, and North Carolina, have helped to deepen her skills in both foiled and leaded techniques. She creates both commissions and one-of-a-kind pieces in her Okeene studio. She honors the history of the craft, and said in a world addicted to "busy,” the meticulous attention to detail required by stained glass forces her to slow down. Each piece has a story and tells a story.  She is a member The Stained-Glass Association of America and winner of the People’s Choice Award - Graceful Arts Center Regional Biennial Juried Show 2020. She is currently represented by Terra Rosa Gallery in Guthrie. 

Katlin Smithey with Ember’s Love, Alva, Oklahoma

She is entered in the fine arts category of mixed media with a painted 3D-printed character. She also has jewelry, resin items, 3D printed items, custom gamer items, crocheted beanies, and cups/mugs.

Eric Steffen, Alva, Oklahoma

Eric has entered in the fine arts category of pottery/sculpture with wooden string art ships and other wooden models.

Megan Valdez, Alva, Oklahoma

This Northwestern student is entered in the fine arts categories of designer arts and jewelry, mixed media, painting, and pottery/sculpture. All artwork in her booth are items she made for her senior art show.

Chloe-Ella Walker, Drummond, Oklahoma

Chloe can be found in the student art space with her entry in the mixed media category with an art form called Decoden. The name is derived from "deco" and "denwa," Japanese for phone, and is a popular, Kawaii-inspired Japanese craft that involves decorating surfaces with special, whipped, icing-like glue and miniature charms. She will have candy/cake-themed tags, mirrors, hair brushes, and other items, using silicone caulk in piping bags to give it a frosting or cake appearance, then using flat back charms and beads to decorate.

Kellie Walker (Nana K’s Place), Drummond, Oklahoma

Kellie, mom to Chloe, is entered in the fine arts category of designer arts and jewelry and pottery/sculpture.  She creates hand-crafted resin games and puzzles as well as fidget quilts for dementia patients and children. She said she wants to help people unplug and make memories with those who matter most. She also will have soft toys.

Nick Weber, Alva, Oklahoma

Nick is entered in the fine arts category of graphics with 3D printed designs. He said he also would possibly be bringing freeze dried candy.

Kandis West with Kanna Wellness LLC, Midwest City, Oklahoma

Kandis sells small-batch, hand-curated tisanes and herbal medicinal teas for health and wellness. The custom tea blends with mostly organic or wild-crafted ingredients are packaged in 2 oz. sealable packets. For more information, visit the Etsy website at kannawellness.etsy.com.

Kaissie White with Class and Sass Bakeshop LLC, Enid, Oklahoma

Kaissie will be bringing cold desserts, tres leches, cheesecake, coconut cream cake, and old-fashioned cinnamon rolls. She will only be set up on Saturday.
