Grab a friend, sibling, family member or spouse and make plans to attend the Paint Your Partner creative art event at the Runnymede Friday, Feb. 7, from 6-8 p.m. during the First Friday Art Walk event in downtown Alva, sponsored by the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council.
No painting experience is needed for a fun evening of painting a portrait on a provided canvas with acrylic paints of the person sitting across the table. Participants should wear clothing appropriate for painting or bring an apron to wear. Examples of what others have done at this type of event can be found by searching the term on the Internet. Upon finishing, the paintings will be revealed to the person across the table, and photos and videos will be taken.
The cost is $25 per two-person team, and registration is open to the first 10 pairs who email NescatungaArts@yahoo.com or call (580) 748-1905 and leave a message. The deadline to register is Feb. 5.
Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council members will receive a $5 discount.
One-year memberships to the organization are $25 with four $5 discounts a year to workshops and events sponsored by the Council, plus $5 off a Nescatunga Arts Festival booth space. Issued upon payment will be a membership card containing four numbers to be checked off when attending a Nescatunga event and one spot to check off for a festival booth space, ultimately returning the $25 membership fee if utilizing all five spaces.
Membership fees and donations to the Council also are tax deductible.
Checks may be mailed to P.O. Box 152, Alva, OK 73717, or payments may be made via Nescatunga’s PayPal account at https://paypal.me/NescatungaArts or by searching for the email NescatungaArts@yahoo.com within the service. Memberships also may be purchased at any workshop or event the Council sponsors.
Debbie Schwerdtfeger and Newanta Kilmer's stained-glass creations also will be displayed during the evening at the Runnymede. This pair took a beginner class in stained glass at the Northwest Technology Center in early February 2024 and have been hooked on creating since. This past year, they’ve made hundreds of pieces and started their company, “Stained Glass Creations,” in the spring of 2024.
Schwerdtfeger said that all their pieces are for sale, and they also take special orders adding, “If I can draw it, I can put it to glass.”
